Cards for a Friend

I met my friend Lori while I was working for the City of Chesapeake, Virginia as a reference librarian.  Lori was a very responsible and dependable employee.  She and I ended up pregnant with our first babies at the same time.  How cool was that?!?  I won't get into all of those details.  Let's just say it was fun to experience pregnancy together.  (Lori might not tell you it was fun! LOL!)

In 2002, I had to leave my position at the library when my husband was assigned to work at the NATO Base in Brunssum, Netherlands.  Lori and I kept in touch for a while, then we kinda lost touch.  Alas, we were reunited through that wonderful social network called Facebook.

Lori is working in a non-library job, but has another really cool job on the side as an artist.  You can view her work here.  She recently sold some of her paintings and wanted to send thank-you cards to her customers.  So she commissioned me to make them.  All she asked was that the cards contain a peacock feather or an artist's brush/palette motif.  Here's what I came up with:

I like how the strip of designer paper mimics the "eye" of the feather.
I painted the peacock feather Garden Green, Pacific Point and Tempting Turquoise ink mixed with Dazzling Details using a blender pen.  It adds a great sparkle.  The photos just don't do them justice.

Here's a view of the inside. I "stamped off" with Pacific Point ink.

Stamps: Fine Feathers, Sweet Essentials
Ink: Versamark, Garden Green, Pacific Point, Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Garden Green, Pacific Point, Whisper White, International Bazaar designer series paper
Accessories: Dazzling Details, Early Espresso embossing powder, heat tool, Stampin' Dimensionals

Happy Stamping!

Thank you - Reason to Smile - Day 2

I have been a fan of Sharon Field for a really long time.  In fact, her blog was one of the first ones I discovered and started following.  Well, the other day I saw her post using the Summer Silhouettes stamp set and really liked it.  Since I've been exploring the possibilities with the Reason to Smile set, I thought it would be a great idea to recreate my own version.  Here it is:

And here's another view:

After adding the ribbon, I kinda wished that I would've stamped the flowers a litter higher.  Maybe next time ; )

Remember, you can get the Reason to Smile stamp set for only $5 during the month of July when you place a $50 order.  See here for details.
